Fitpro PT Seminar 2008

Slept all the way to Loughborough in Glynn’s car with Ben taking pictures of me drooling on myself.  M called to find out if we were ahead or not and I had to confess we were in MacDonalds, counting calories and picketing passerbys to eat fresh fruit and porridge (honest).

Running from seminar to sports call, Loughborough University reminded me of being a wet nosed fresher back at Uni running from one far end of the campus to the other.

The entire weekend was, in a word, inspiring.  As a manager I had to give it to them they had everything super organised.    Sign up took about a minute, and I ‘accidentally’ got two of their amazing goodie bags.  I was lucky enough to get all the events I had booked for whereas everyone else either got their second choices or random events.

As a personal trainer it was inspiring to listen to and in most cases work with professionals from the industry.  Famous names and faces *Cough Pouliquin Cough*, new ways of exercise and most rewarding was all the theory behind it all.  Most personal trainers are happy to just copy something from the internet or this month’s latest edition of Men’s Health.  It was inspiring and refreshing t work behind the scenes and be able to discuss, argue and learn the fundamental aspects behind every movement, every stretch, every pre conceived notion in the health and fitness industry.

Actually Pouliquin was very quiet, his conversation took any number of tangents and to most people he seemed disorientated or drunk.

Fit pro’s main exhibition area kicked some serious ass.  It was the first time I’ve ever seen Hardcore  Body Vive.  It was interesting to see many other companies and their ‘innovations’, it was almost like a mini LIW.

Best bits:  Robert Cappucio shouting at his audience, biomechanics seminar that blew my mind, Andrea loving kettlebells and kicking Ben’s ass at pool.  Oh yea, and all the free t-shirts I could want.

Worst bits: M kicking my ass at pool, the ‘hotel’ manager asking me if M just kicked my ass at pool and being roped into a body conditioning class with 300 other women.

 1st June 2008 - Kettlebell course

Just got back after a two day intensive kettlebell course run by none other than the famous Tommy Matthews.  I have bruises all over my arms, forearms, tops of my biceps and knuckles.  But I passed with flying colours.  The course was heavy in biomechanics which is a growing trend with most training providers.  I'm not sure if that's the industry becoming more responsible (read: professional) or REPS making people work for their points.

Fantastic course, great after course resources and now a whole new slew of exercises/toys to play with!
